The Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital, has confirmed that a security officer on duty was assaulted earlier this week.

In a statement signed by Juliana Haruna, Head of Public Relations, on February 20, 2026, the hospital said the incident occurred on February 18 at approximately 7:28 p.m. in the Labour Ward.

The suspect, an 18-year-old identified as Gabriel Dimson, who had accompanied his mother and a friend to the hospital, allegedly attacked the officer.

According to authorities, Dimson was instructed to move to the reception area because visitors are not allowed to linger near the ward entrance outside approved visiting hours. He reportedly ignored the directive, pushed the officer to the ground and physically assaulted him, causing the officer to lose consciousness.

Medical staff on duty intervened immediately. The officer remains hospitalized but is responding to treatment.

The matter has been reported to the Ghana Police Service at the Adabraka District Police Command. The suspect is in custody, and investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.

Hospital management emphasized that violence against staff will not be tolerated, highlighting the critical role security personnel play in protecting patients, visitors and healthcare workers.

Meanwhile, management has urged the public to respect hospital rules and cooperate with staff to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
