The National Council of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced the immediate suspension of the strike action it declared on November 24, 2025, following the government’s release of funds to settle several outstanding entitlements.
CETAG embarked on an indefinite nationwide strike after accusing the government of failing to implement a National Labour Commission (NLC) arbitral award issued more than two years earlier. The decision to begin the industrial action was endorsed by the Association’s National Executive Committee in consultation with the National Council during an emergency meeting held on November 19, 2025.
In a statement released on Saturday, February 14, 2026, the National Council confirmed that the suspension of the strike was agreed unanimously during deliberations held between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., marking a significant step toward resolving long-standing concerns within the colleges of education sector.
According to the statement, the government’s intervention covers outstanding payments, including year-round work compensation, arrears for the 2023/2024 Book and Research Allowance, as well as the 2022 Research Top-Up Allowance owed to Akrokeri College of Education.
The Council indicated that the development demonstrates progress in addressing the association’s grievances and expressed cautious optimism that sustained engagement will ensure the full implementation of all agreed commitments.

CETAG described the release of these funds as a major development and expressed confidence that the National Labour Commission would help expedite resolution of the remaining issues still under adjudication.
Following this progress, the Association has directed members to return to academic duties and resume teaching activities on Monday, February 16, 2026.

The Council stressed that suspending the strike demonstrates its commitment to good-faith engagement with government and other stakeholders as efforts continue toward a full settlement of all outstanding matters.
The National Council also thanked members for their solidarity, patience, and dedication throughout the strike period, noting that their unity played a crucial role in advancing the Association’s collective interests.
The Council further encouraged members to maintain that spirit of togetherness as CETAG continues discussions aimed at securing full compliance with the unresolved issues.
