The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the March 3 Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Jamal, has drawn number one on the ballot paper, placing him first for voters on election day.
His closest rival, Yussif Baba Ali of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), drew number three, while Ibrahim Iddrisu of the Liberal People’s Party (LPP) secured the number two slot.
Two independent candidates, Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Sanda and David Kannor, will occupy the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
The balloting exercise was held on Thursday, February 12, at the Electoral Commission’s constituency office in Accra, a day after nominations closed on Wednesday, February 11.
The by-election follows the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, in January while receiving treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Speaking to the media after the draw, Baba Jamal described his position on the ballot as a positive sign ahead of the polls.
The March 3 by-election will determine who will represent the Ayawaso East constituency in Parliament.
