Member of Parliament for Akuapem North and Senior Advisor to the Bawumia Campaign, Sammi Awuku, has said that the team was confident of victory, describing the outcome as “snatching victory from the jaws of tigers.”
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Awuku revealed that internal projections by the campaign placed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s expected performance between 55 and 57%, noting that the final outcome exceeded expectations.
He explained that unlike 2023, when the race involved two leading contenders, the latest contest featured three major candidates, making the dynamics more competitive.
According to him, the campaign had targeted a minimum 20 percent gap, but Dr. Bawumia eventually secured a 33 percent margin over his closest rival, Kennedy Agyapong.
Mr. Awuku said the wide margin gave Dr. Bawumia a clear mandate to lead, adding that his popularity has grown steadily over time.
“We were confident that we were going to win, but it felt like snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Internally, our projections as a campaign team ranged between 55% and 57%. The dynamics this time were different from 2023 since we had a top two instead of a top three. We aimed for at least a minimum gap of 20%, and we achieved a 33% gap between Bawumia and Ken, which indicates that Bawumia had a clear mandate to lead us.
“Bawumia’s popularity has grown over time, and I believe his message was clear; he is humble and knowledgeable. He has taken the time to profile the party members, which has eliminated any doubts about his leadership,” he said.
