The Minority in Parliament has called for a full probe into what it describes as the unlawful termination of employment of some Ghanaian youths by the Chief of Staff in 2025.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin raised the issue on the floor of Parliament, accusing the government of unfairly dismissing workers who were employed after the 2024 general elections.

He revealed that, contrary to claims that the directive affected only post-2024 recruits, some of the dismissed workers had been employed as far back as 2017.

According to Mr. Afenyo-Markin, the Minority filed a motion on the matter, which was duly admitted by the Speaker. However, he said the Majority Leader raised a preliminary objection, which was later overruled by the First Deputy Speaker.

The Minority Leader is demanding that the motion be reflected in the official Parliamentary report and has called on the government to ensure justice for the affected workers, many of whom he said have gone without salaries for over a year.

Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has also expressed concern over recurring job losses in the public sector following changes in government, describing the situation as worrying for public sector stability.
