The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is today, Saturday, January 31, holding its presidential primary to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
Delegates across the country are casting their ballots in what has been described as one of the party’s most crucial internal elections since its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Five aspirants are contesting the race: former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Bryan Acheampong; former Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum; former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong; and businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
About 211,000 delegates drawn from NPP constituencies nationwide are expected to vote at more than 300 designated polling centres across the country.
The primary follows months of intense campaigning, policy engagements and nationwide tours by the aspirants, significantly boosting interest among delegates.
Earlier this month, all five contenders signed a peace pact, pledging to accept the outcome of the primary and work together to maintain party unity.
