The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will vet five aspirants seeking the party’s parliamentary nomination for Ayawaso East on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

The aspirants include Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late MP Mahama Naser Toure, and Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, both of whom formally filed their nominations on Tuesday.

The other aspirants are the party’s constituency chairman, Mohammed Ramme, Dr. Yakubu Azindow, and Najib Mohammed Sani.

Speaking to Accra-based Citi News, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections, Tanko Computer, said the vetting exercise will be immediately followed by balloting, with any grievances raised by candidates addressed to ensure a smooth primary process.

“We will be vetting all five aspirants and then proceeding with balloting. After that, if there is any aggrieved candidate, the aggrieved committee will hear the case. There are four men and one woman contesting. The committee will ensure the process is concluded before we print ballot papers for the Electoral Commission to conduct the primary on February 7, 2026,” he explained.

The by-election, scheduled for March 3, 2026, by the Electoral Commission (EC), follows the death of sitting MP Mahama Naser Toure on January 4.

Meanwhile, Hajia Amina Adam has requested virtual vetting, as she is currently observing Iddah, a four-month period of seclusion required under Islamic tradition for widows, which restricts her physical public engagements.
