A bush fire outbreak at Piisi in the Upper West Region on Monday, January 19, 2026, was swiftly brought under control by firefighters, preventing extensive damage to farmlands.

Fire personnel from the UBIDS Fire Station, supported by the Municipal Fire Station, responded promptly after the fire—sparked by uncontrolled bush burning—spread into a mango plantation owned by Kalgaston Farms.

Thanks to their timely intervention, the blaze was contained and extinguished within minutes. While parts of the mango plantation were affected, a significant portion of the farm was saved, averting potentially major agricultural losses.

The Ghana National Fire Service has once again cautioned the public against indiscriminate bush burning, particularly during the dry season, highlighting the serious risks such practices pose to lives, property, and livelihoods.
