A pressure group calling itself Concerned Residents of Kwahu is urging Dr. Bryan Acheampong to withdraw from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential flagbearership race, accusing him of actions they say could harm the party’s unity and electoral prospects.
According to the group, their demand follows claims by Opare Ansah, a leading member of the NPP, who alleged that Dr. Acheampong once threatened to boycott the party’s campaign activities in the Eastern Region during the 2024 electioneering period.
In a video clip from an interview on Asempa FM, Opare Ansah claimed that Dr. Acheampong warned party officials against participating in certain campaign activities, demonstrating what he described as a tendency to disrupt party operations.
Owusu Nketiah, Convener of Concerned Residents of Kwahu, said the statements by Opare Ansah confirm what they describe as long-held concerns about Dr. Acheampong’s conduct, arguing that such a character does not deserve to lead a political party like the NPP.
The group warned that the NPP risks losing significant electoral support in the Kwahu area—where the party has historically performed strongly—should Dr. Acheampong emerge as the party’s presidential candidate.
They therefore urged the NPP leadership to consider the concerns of the people of Kwahu seriously in order to protect the party’s electoral fortunes and maintain internal unity.
