The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has accused former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, of deliberately seeking to tarnish the party’s image.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Kodua questioned Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s recent description of the NPP as a “fake party,” asking when he came to that conclusion.
According to the NPP General Secretary, the party has been undergoing internal restructuring following the 2024 elections, including constitutional amendments to establish a security and intelligence unit. He claimed intelligence reports indicate some individuals are working against the unity and peace of the party.
“Anyone who knows the history of the NPP understands that it is a party with respected elders who have worked hard for its success,” Mr. Kodua said. “After the 2024 elections, we recognized a gap in our constitution regarding security and intelligence. One of the key amendments we are making is the establishment of a security and intelligence unit. The information we have received is accurate, and one of the findings is that there are individuals within the party acting against its unity and peace.”
He alleged that Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s comments were intended to create division and distract from the party’s internal primaries.
“I am surprised by Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s claim that our party is fake. When did he come to this conclusion about a party that once appointed him as a minister? What has changed? He is fully aware of his actions and is deliberately attempting to tarnish the NPP’s reputation,” he said.
“It is not surprising that some are trying to divert attention from our upcoming primaries. As a party, we will not sit idly by while anyone tries to create division. That is why I advocated for his removal from the party,” Mr. Kodua added.
The NPP has confirmed that it has invoked relevant provisions of its constitution to begin processes to expel Prof. Frimpong-Boateng. This follows his comments on Accra-based Channel One TV on January 12, 2026, where he described the party as a “fake party” and said he no longer considers himself a member.
