A 35-year-old man, popularly known as “Rasta,” has allegedly shot and killed a 65-year-old, James Nyankomago, farmer at Sehwi Atwima in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.

The incident occurred on Thursday, December 25, 2025, while the deceased was on his way to his farm.

Mr. Nyankomago was said to have gone to the farm with his wife to irrigate their crops. On their way, a chemical they were carrying reportedly spilled, prompting him to return home to get a replacement while his wife continued to the farm.

On his return, he encountered the suspect, who allegedly attacked the farmer with a locally manufactured firearm, shot him twice before slashing his throat, leading to his death.

When James failed to return to the farm and did not respond to repeated calls, his wife became alarmed and returned to look for him.

She found him lying motionless and immediately raised an alarm, drawing the attention of nearby residents, who then informed the police.

Police officers who later arrived at the scene discovered that the suspect had also died under circumstances that are not yet clear.

The bodies of both men were transported to the Anhwiaso Community Hospital mortuary for preservation and further investigation.

Some residents of Sehwi Atwima told Adom News that the suspect was believed to have mental health challenges and had been living in the bush for some time.

They claimed he had previously threatened farmers in the area and was suspected to have injured another person earlier the same day.

Police have launched investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and the deaths of both the victim and the suspect.
