The Member of Parliament for Asunafo South in the Ahafo Region, Eric Opoku, has sponsored free registration and renewal of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for over 400 residents of Sankore and surrounding communities.
Speaking to Adom News, the Asunafo South District Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Obeng Manu Gyau, said the exercise aimed to enroll people who had never registered with the scheme and to renew expired memberships, improving access to healthcare.

He explained that the initiative, fully funded by the MP—who also serves as Minister for Food and Agriculture—has brought relief to beneficiaries who were previously unable to afford the cost of registration and renewal due to financial constraints.
According to him, the exercise has significantly boosted the district’s NHIS membership drive.
Meanwhile, the Ahafo Regional Director of NHIA, Mawuli George, said the Authority is intensifying efforts to increase active NHIS membership as the year draws to a close. He noted that while female enrolment in the region is improving, more men need to be encouraged to subscribe to the scheme.
