Renowned American civil rights lawyer Benjamin Crump has arrived in Ghana to participate in the 2025 Diaspora Summit, following an official invitation extended by the government.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, welcomed Mr Crump to the Ministry, describing it as a pleasure to host the lawyer widely referred to as “Black America’s Attorney-General.”

Mr Crump is internationally respected for his role in several landmark civil rights and police brutality cases, including those involving George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Trayvon Martin, Jacob Blake, Keenan Anderson and Sonya Massey, among others.

His work has earned him recognition as one of the most influential legal voices in the global fight for racial justice.

He is expected to deliver a keynote address on reparative justice at the Diaspora Summit on Friday, a session anticipated to attract significant interest from both local and international participants.

As part of his visit, Mr Crump paid a courtesy call on the Ghana Tourism Authority, where he was received by the Chief Executive Officer, alongside the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Marketing and Special Duties, Gilbert Abeiky Aggrey, and board member Prince Anthony Bart-Appiah.

Officials noted that Mr Crump’s presence aligns with Ghana’s broader diaspora engagement agenda, which aims to strengthen ties with people of African descent worldwide and reinforce Ghana’s position as a cultural, historical and spiritual home for the diaspora.

His visit is being hailed as a boost to Ghana’s international profile and ongoing conversations on justice, heritage and global Black solidarity.
