John Odartey Lamptey, the man widely seen in a viral video physically assaulting his wife, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties after pleading not guilty to seven charges in court.

He faces prosecution under Sections 1(b)(i) and 3(2) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732), which cover physical assault and domestic abuse.

The case drew national attention after the video surfaced online, sparking outrage and renewed calls for stricter enforcement of laws protecting victims of domestic violence.

The footage shows Lamptey physically attacking his naked spouse in the foyer of their house after inviting her over.

During the hearing, the presiding magistrate granted the bail with conditions requiring Lamptey to present himself for all future court dates and to avoid any contact with the victim.

The case has since been adjourned as investigations continue.

Police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault to determine whether additional charges are warranted.

Meanwhile, two of his accomplices are still under remand.
