The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed claims that it is secretly recruiting teachers and selling appointment letters for sums as high as GHS25,000.

In a statement issued on Friday, December 12, and signed by its Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, GES said its attention had been drawn to a viral video and reports circulated on some traditional media platforms alleging a ‘secret’ recruitment exercise within the Service.

Management described the allegations as false and misleading, stressing that they do not reflect the facts on the ground.

According to GES, the misunderstanding may have arisen from the extension of financial clearance in October 2025, which was granted to facilitate the onboarding of applicants from the 2024 recruitment batch whose earlier clearance had expired.

The Service explained that the resumption of the onboarding process resulted in the issuance of new appointment letters in some instances.

“For example, applicants who had earlier been issued fake appointment letters were given new genuine letters, since they could not be onboarded with the fake ones,” the statement clarified, adding that the new letters were issued at no cost to beneficiaries.

GES has therefore urged members of the public who are being asked to pay money for recruitment or who have evidence of such demands to report the matter immediately to the appropriate security agencies.

The Service further assured the public that its recruitment procedures remain unchanged, explaining that whenever financial clearance is obtained for a major recruitment exercise, an official public announcement is made to invite qualified applicants to apply.

GES reaffirmed that its recruitment process is open, transparent and completely free of charge.
