Fresh evidence has emerged over an alleged “secret recruitment” by the Ghana Education Service (GES), as some appointment letters have now surfaced, reinforcing claims by unemployed trained teachers that recruitment is quietly being carried out for selected individuals, many of whom they suspect may have paid for their slots.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, organizer for the Coalition for Unemployed Trained Teachers, Paul Octhere Karikari, revealed that although no official communication has been issued by GES, some teachers have begun receiving appointment letters, some dated as far back as December 9, 2025, December 10, 2025, and December 11, 2025.
“We have not received any official communication from GES about recruitment, but we know some colleagues have already gotten appointment letters and are expected to start work on January 2026,” he said.
Karikari alleged that some recruits were asked to pay GH¢25,000 before receiving their letters.
“I don’t have that money, so I didn’t even bother. It means those without money are being left out—even though we all completed the same training,” he said.
He added that the coalition has been following up with the GES since June, yet authorities continue to insist that no recruitment portal has been opened.
Another affected graduate teacher, Richard Boakye, shared similar frustrations.
“We have to beg for money just to buy food, yet our colleagues are posting their appointment letters in WhatsApp groups. Some are paying money for recruitment. I qualify to be a teacher—I shouldn’t have to pay to get a job,” he lamented.
Appointment letters from different dates surface
The coalition says it has intercepted several appointment letters allegedly issued to some teachers. The documents, which vary by date and posting location, include:
- Letter dated 9th December 2025
– Posting to Adweso SDA Basic School in the Eastern Region
– Signed by the GES Director-General
– Effective date of assumption: December 23, 2025
- Letter dated 10th December 2025
– Posting to Boako English and Arabic Primary School in the Western North Region
– Effective date of assumption: December 23, 2025
- Letter dated 11th December 2025
– Posting to Ashaiman Senior High School in the Greater Accra Region
– Effective date of assumption: December 23, 2025
These letters appear to confirm that recruitment is indeed underway despite the absence of an official GES announcement.
Coalition demands government intervention
Mr. Karikari urged government to step in, insisting that recruitment into the Ghana Education Service should be based on merit and transparency, not financial influence.
“We are done with school and expected automatic posting. I don’t know why some of us are being omitted,” he said.
Meanwhile, attempts to obtain a clear response from GES have not yielded a direct denial, although sources suggest “some form of selective recruitment” may be taking place.
The coalition maintains that the circulating appointment letters are proof that a recruitment process is ongoing without public notice.
