Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has defended his actions following his release from detention by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), insisting he committed no offence.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Kpebu said he was invited to the OSP solely to clarify aspects of a petition he filed, and not because he was under investigation.

He alleged that the OSP attempted to detain him unlawfully, accusing Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng of failing to act on cases involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Kpebu added that an encounter with an OSP officer, during which he admitted exchanging insults, was being used as a pretext for his arrest.

“I have committed no crime. The Office of the Special Prosecutor has five cases against Ofori-Atta, yet Kissi Agyebeng has allowed him to evade accountability, which is a failure to do his job. There are allegations of corruption related to my petition, and now they want to detain me, which is against the law. I remain in high spirits because I maintain my innocence,” he said.

He further explained:

“We are working to improve the Office of the Special Prosecutor. They seem intent on finding a reason to arrest me. A soldier insulted me, calling me stupid, so I responded in kind, but I believe my reaction was justified. I was invited to the OSP regarding my petition, and they informed me that I am not being investigated. Instead, they asked me to come as a citizen to provide an explanation. That’s why I attended the meeting.”

Kpebu was reportedly arrested on Wednesday, December 3, for allegedly obstructing an OSP officer. He was later granted bail, with conditions including providing landed property and a surety.
