Former Ghana Football Association president Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has called on the Black Stars’ technical team to undertake a major clean-up of the squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, arguing that several current players are not up to the standard required for the global stage.

Ghana secured a return to the World Cup after topping their qualification group with 25 points, bouncing back from the disappointment of missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations — the first AFCON the nation failed to qualify for in over two decades.

But Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe believes the team cannot rely on the same group that navigated the qualifiers if they hope to progress beyond the group stage in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

He stressed that head coach Otto Addo and his technical team must introduce higher-quality and more experienced players to give Ghana a competitive advantage next summer.

“We are going to play at the highest stage of football, and if the country wants to progress, then most of the boys who brought us to where we are today are not good players,” he told Graphic Sports.

“If there are other experienced footballers, we should look for the best that will take us to the World Cup,” he added.

The Black Stars will discover their group-stage opponents when the World Cup draw is held on Friday, November 5.
