The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has disclosed that Ghanaian-owned construction companies constitute the majority of contractors working on road projects across the country.

According to him, about 70 percent of the firms handling key road infrastructure works are local companies, many of which have the financial strength and technical capacity to undertake major national projects.

Providing updates on the state of ongoing road developments in an interview on Channel One TV, the Minister said, “The majority of road contractors are Ghanaians. Seventy percent of the top road contractors are Ghanaians.”

His comments come at a time when government is intensifying efforts to upgrade the country’s road network under its Big Push agenda, a broad initiative aimed at accelerating infrastructure expansion and improving connectivity nationwide.

Mr Agbodza emphasised that the strong presence of local contractors in the sector reflects growing confidence in Ghanaian firms and their ability to deliver on large-scale engineering projects.
