Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, says the Black Stars’ recent international friendlies against Japan and South Korea achieved their intended objectives despite both matches ending in defeat.
As part of Ghana’s build-up to next summer’s World Cup, the team played Japan in the Kirin Cup at the Toyota Stadium last Friday, where they lost 2-0. They later suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to South Korea at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, concluding the November international window without a win.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Asante Twum admitted the results were disappointing but insisted the games were not primarily about winning.
“We had to deal with injuries, and we lost against Japan and South Korea, but the purpose for which these friendlies were played has been achieved,” he said.
He explained that the technical team used the fixtures to assess new players, test tactical variations and evaluate the squad’s readiness ahead of the World Cup.
The Black Stars will regroup in March as preparations continue, with coach Otto Addo and his staff expected to intensify training after Ghana learns its group opponents on December 5.
