Founder of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) and 2024 presidential candidate, Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has sparked controversy after declaring that Heaven and Hell are “a scam.”

Speaking on The Big Agenda on Adom TV, hosted by Nana Osei Ampofo Adjei, Osofo Kyiri Abosom urged pastors in Ghana to shift their focus from what he described as deceptive spiritual teachings and instead contribute to national development.

He argued that many pastors preach about Heaven and Hell to distract from their failure to help church members prosper.

“Pastors are supposed to help their members progress, but they have failed. That is why they consistently preach about Heaven and Hell. Let us concentrate on supporting the development of this country and stop these spiritual messages. Those preaching about Heaven and Hell are liars. Heaven and Hell are a scam,” he said.

The founder of Life Assembly Worship Center, Christian Kwabena Andrews — popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom — also stated that he does not believe Jesus Christ died for him, describing such teachings as historical accounts documented many years ago.

He rejected the doctrine of the “Blood of Jesus,” saying he does not believe in its spiritual significance, and criticised the National Prayer Day event, calling it a funfair with little real impact on national progress.

“Christianity is about mindset and improving the living standards of citizens,” he said.

While affirming his belief in the existence of God, he insisted that God has already given humans the wisdom and knowledge to overcome challenges, making it unnecessary, in his view, to invoke the Blood of Jesus or preach about Heaven and Hell.

“When Jesus came to die on the cross, I was not there, so He did not die for me. In those days, people depended on grasshoppers for food, but today we enjoy fried rice with good fried fish,” he added.
