Man electrocuted in suspected theft attempt in Berekum

-

A man believed to be in his late 20s has reportedly died from electrocution at Nyamebekyere, a suburb of Berekum in the Bono Region, in what residents suspect was a failed theft attempt.

The lifeless body of the unidentified man, known locally as Obooshi, was discovered early Friday morning lying in front of a fast-food container, leaving residents in shock.

Reports indicate that the fast-food shop owner had allegedly rigged electricity to parts of the container following repeated theft complaints.

Residents believe the deceased was electrocuted while attempting to steal from the shop during the night.

An eyewitness told Adom News that Obooshi was a known ex-convict who had previously served time for theft-related offenses but reportedly returned to criminal activities after his release.

Police have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are also seeking to locate the shop owner, who was not present at the time of the tragedy.

The body has been deposited at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital morgue pending an autopsy.
