Daddy Lumba’s family fires back at estranged wife over marriage, funeral claims

The Fosu Royal Family of Parkoso and Nsuta has broken its silence on claims made by Akosua Serwah Fosuh, the estranged wife of the late Ghanaian music icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.

In a statement issued through their solicitors, the family addressed letters reportedly sent by Akosua Serwah on September 1 and 10, 2025, concerning matters relating to the late musician’s estate, funeral arrangements, and marital claims.

According to the family, Akosua Serwah abandoned Daddy Lumba about 15 years ago during his time of illness, refusing to relocate with him to Ghana for medical treatment. They stated that she “deserted him in his difficult time of need.”

The letter further revealed that in February 2018, Akosua Serwah wrote to Daddy Lumba expressing her intention to initiate divorce proceedings, making several allegations which the late musician denied.

The family’s solicitors noted that Daddy Lumba’s then-lawyers responded to that letter, challenging her to proceed with the divorce, as he had already moved on with his life.

The family also disclosed that Akosua Serwah had presented traditional drinks to the Fosu family, signifying the customary dissolution of her marriage to the late musician, a gesture that was duly accepted.

“By Akan tradition and the customs of the Fosu Royal Family, the presentation and acceptance of such drinks effectively dissolve a marriage. Once a person passes, their body and funeral arrangements are the responsibility of their family. Therefore, your client has no right to determine how the Fosu Royal Family buries their dead.”

They added that if Akosua Serwah’s name appears in any funeral brochure at all, it would be “a favour from the family because of the children she has with him.”

The family recognized one Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, as the wife who lived with Daddy Lumba for over 15 years until his passing, describing her as the woman who “stood by him through thick and thin” and bore six children with him.

“Odo Broni is a recognized wife of the late Daddy Lumba, and the Fosu Royal Family acknowledges her as such,” the statement affirmed.

On the issue of the late musician’s estate, the family clarified that all properties owned by Daddy Lumba form part of his estate and will be distributed fairly among his children and their mothers in due course. They warned that no individual should attempt to lay claim to any property until legal processes are concluded.

The solicitors, who were the last legal representatives of the late highlife legend, also revealed that they hold written instructions from Daddy Lumba detailing how he wished his funeral and estate matters to be handled.

The Fosu Royal Family urged all parties, including Akosua Serwah, to cooperate peacefully to ensure a dignified burial for the celebrated musician.

“To avoid unnecessary litigation that may bring shame to the memory of the dead, the family remains open to peaceful discussions with all concerned,” the statement concluded.
