Vicky Zugah opens up about stigma faced as a single mother

Actress and TV presenter Victoria Zugah, popularly known as Vicky Zugah, has revealed that society often labels her a “bad person” simply because she is a single mother.

Speaking on The Real Talk Podcast hosted by Elizabeth Essuman, Vicky shared her experiences and reflections on single parenting and the social stigma that often comes with it.

“I have been called a ‘bad person’ because I’m a single mother. It used to affect me back then, but not anymore,” she said.

She noted that single parenting, which involves raising children without a live-in partner due to divorce, separation, non-marriage, or loss of a spouse, can be emotionally and financially demanding, particularly in a society where judgement and stereotypes persist.

“In our society, single parenting can be saddening when some single parents must handle every aspect of parenting alone and depend heavily on support systems such as family and friends,” she added.

Vicky also highlighted a growing trend where many women, especially in Ghana, tend to prioritise family over ambition, while many men focus on personal goals, a factor she believes contributes to the rising number of single mothers.

Despite the challenges, Vicky emphasised the importance of resilience and self-acceptance, urging society to show more understanding and support for single parents.
