Suspect confesses to killing 15 people as Police probe security man’s murder in Wa

Two suspects have been taken into custody following the murder of a night security guard, with one of them reportedly confessing to the killing of 15 individuals across multiple communities.

The revelation was made by the Upper West Regional Police Commander, ACP Francis Yiribaare, during a press briefing on Wednesday.

Police say the alleged killings, which include three incidents in Bole and Banda in the Savannah Region, appear to form part of a larger pattern of targeted attacks.

According to the police, the main suspect, identified as Sherif Abdullai, confessed during interrogation that he had been killing night watchmen and mentally ill persons since 2021.

“He admitted responsibility for the murder of 15 people in the Wa Municipality prior to the recent killing of Issah Yahaya, the security guard,” ACP Yiribaare stated.

“He further confessed to killing three mentally ill persons and two watchmen in Bole, one mentally ill man in Banda Nkwanta, and one woman in Bamboi — all within the Savannah Region. He reportedly carried the victims into nearby bushes and buried them secretly.”

Both suspects remain in police custody, assisting with investigations.

The confession follows renewed concern in Wa, where several night guards have been killed or gone missing in recent years. One of the most recent victims, Issah Yahaya, also known as “Soldier,” was found dead under a shed near Wa’s new market with deep head wounds and a knife placed on his chest.

Authorities say the pattern of violence resembles a series of gruesome killings reported in 2022, which sparked widespread fear and speculation about possible ritual motives.

Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that they are working closely with local leaders to bring an end to the killings.
