Kofi Adams urges Black Stars to target 2026 World Cup final

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has urged the Black Stars to set their sights on reaching the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup if they qualify.

Ghana strengthened their chances of securing a place at next year’s tournament with a narrow 1-0 win over Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, following a 1-1 draw against Chad last week.

The victory lifted the four-time African champions to 19 points at the top of Group I, edging them closer to their fifth World Cup appearance.

Reflecting on Ghana’s historic quarterfinal feat at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Adams said the current team has the talent to surpass that milestone.

“The Black Stars must aim at playing in the final of the 2026 World Cup if the team qualify,” the Buem MP told Woezor TV.

“We must aim to better the performance we achieved in South Africa. The President [John Mahama] has brought some goodwill to the country, and I strongly believe that we have the best players to make that history,” he added.

The Black Stars will face the Central African Republic in their next qualifier before wrapping up their campaign at home against Comoros in October.
