Ghana coach Otto Addo has praised his players for their resilience and defensive discipline following the Black Stars’ narrow 1-0 victory over Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Monday night at the Accra Sports Stadium.
A 49th-minute strike from defender Alexander Djiku proved decisive as the four-time African champions secured a crucial three points, strengthening their hold on top spot in Group I.
Although Ghana missed opportunities to extend their lead during late counter-attacks, Addo expressed satisfaction with the team’s commitment and work rate.
“We really fought well thanks to the defence; they gave their all and defended excellently,” Addo said in his post-match assessment. “I’m happy that we won,” the 48-year-old added.
The victory lifts Ghana to 19 points at the summit of Group I.
The Black Stars will wrap up their qualifying campaign in October with key fixtures against the Central African Republic and Comoros.
