Health Minister assures nurses of payment after salary delays

The Minister of Health has assured nurses experiencing salary delays that the government is actively working to resolve the issue.

Speaking during an engagement with health workers at Bibiani Government Hospital in the Western North Region, the Minister acknowledged the challenges faced by affected nurses and appealed for patience as steps are being taken to clear the arrears.

“We understand the challenges the delay has brought to you and your families, and I want to assure you that the Ministry of Health, together with the Ministry of Finance, is taking the necessary steps to settle all outstanding salaries soon,” he stated.

He emphasised that the government remains committed to the welfare of health professionals and will ensure the timely payment of their entitlements.

Mr. Akandoh noted that 7,000 unpaid nurses are currently enrolled on payroll and receiving monthly salaries, while the government continues to migrate the remaining numbers.

The Minister further encouraged nurses to continue delivering quality healthcare while the payment processes are finalised.

He also addressed concerns about expanding the list of medicines covered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and urged patients to adhere strictly to medical prescriptions as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery.
