Gov’t imposes curfew on Bole Township over chieftaincy tensions

The Ministry of the Interior has imposed a curfew on Bole Township and its environs in the Savannah Region following heightened tensions over chieftaincy disputes.

The curfew, which took effect on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, will run daily from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice.

According to a directive signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the decision was based on advice from the National Security Council through an Executive Instrument.

Government has urged chiefs, opinion leaders, and residents to exercise restraint and use peaceful means to resolve their grievances.

As part of the restrictions, there is a total ban on firearms, ammunition, and offensive weapons, with offenders to face arrest and prosecution.

Authorities have also prohibited more than two persons from riding a motorbike simultaneously and banned the wearing of war regalia.
