President John Dramani Mahama has received a unique honour in Singapore with an orchid hybrid named after him.

The ceremony took place at the National Orchid Garden in Singapore’s Botanic Gardens, where the flower, now officially known as Vanda John Dramani Mahama, was unveiled.

It becomes part of the renowned “VIP Orchids” collection, which features hybrids named after visiting dignitaries, including heads of state and global leaders.

As part of the occasion, President Mahama toured the gardens, signed the visitors’ book, and was briefed on the institution’s history.

Singapore’s tradition of dedicating orchid hybrids to distinguished guests is seen as a gesture of goodwill and respect.

Orchids, beyond their elegance, are viewed in Singapore as symbols of resilience and transformation—values the country associates with its own national journey.

President Mahama is currently in Singapore for a three-day state visit, which also includes his participation in the 8th Africa-Singapore Business Forum.
