The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed claims that Akwatia is a New Patriotic Party (NPP) stronghold, with Party Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia describing it as a swing seat under the Fourth Republic.
In an interview with Channel One TV, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said the NDC has consistently fielded candidates nationwide, including in challenging constituencies, and has often won in difficult areas.
“Those saying we should leave Akwatia for the NPP do not understand. We contest everywhere, from Bantama to Manhyia. Akwatia has never been an NPP-exclusive seat,” he stated.
He also dismissed fears of election-related violence, assuring cooperation with security agencies for a peaceful poll.
The Electoral Commission has scheduled the Akwatia by-election for Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in what promises to be a closely contested race.
