Farmers’ Association demands apology from GRNMA General Secretary over “disrespectful” remarks

The Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) has condemned comments made by Dr. David Tenkorang Twum, General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), describing them as derogatory and disrespectful to farmers.

Dr. Tenkorang Twum, during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, allegedly launched verbal attacks on both the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and farmers.

In a strongly worded statement, GNAFF expressed shock that such remarks came from a leader of a professional body, stressing that farmers remain the backbone of Ghana’s economy through their role in food security and national development.

“The Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) has taken serious notice of an interview granted on Asempa FM’s afternoon political programme Ekosii Sen by the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr. David Tenkorang Twum, in which he made derogatory and unprintable remarks about the Honourable Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, as well as an unprovoked verbal attack on farmers.

“As the mother body of farmers and fishermen across the country, GNAFF condemns in the strongest possible terms these unwarranted and disrespectful comments against farmers. We are deeply shocked and dismayed that such abusive words could be uttered by a leader of a professional body, who should be expected to conduct himself with decorum and respect,” the statemet said.

The Association has issued a 24-hour ultimatum for Dr. Tenkorang Twum to retract his comments and render an unqualified apology.

Failure to do so, GNAFF warned, will compel it to take appropriate steps to defend the dignity of farmers and fishermen.
