Antoine Semenyo will be sought after by top clubs again – Michael Owen

Former Liverpool and Manchester United forward Michael Owen believes Antoine Semenyo will once again attract the attention of Europe’s elite clubs following his impressive start to the season.

The Ghanaian striker scored twice in AFC Bournemouth’s 4-2 defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League opener at Anfield, a performance that caught Owen’s eye.

Semenyo, who signed a long-term contract with the Cherries this summer after being linked with several top-flight clubs, was hailed by the former England international for his strength, pace, and clinical finishing.

“I feel sorry for AFC Bournemouth because they have sold some of their best players, but they have managed to keep one of the best players at the club,” Owen said.

“He [Semenyo] is strong and has speed, and I think he will be sought after by top clubs,” he added.

The striker’s outstanding display was marred by an incident of racial abuse during the first half, which forced referee Anthony Taylor to temporarily halt the game.

Merseyside Police confirmed on Saturday that a 47-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the abuse.

The incident has since been condemned by FIFA, the Premier League, the Ghana Football Association, fellow players, and anti-racism campaigners.

Semenyo will hope to keep his impressive form intact when Bournemouth host Wolves at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, August 23.
