Commercial transport operators, including the GPRTU of TUC, GRTCC, and several drivers’ unions, are demanding urgent repairs to the Pokuase–Nsawam road, describing its current state as unmotorable and dangerous.
In a joint statement dated August 14, 2025, the operators said the poor road condition is causing frequent vehicle breakdowns, high maintenance costs, and shortened vehicle lifespans.
They warned that the situation is also disrupting economic activities and affecting travel to the Eastern, Ashanti, and other northern regions.
According to the statement, the Minister for Roads and Highways had earlier assured them that the road would be fixed within six weeks, but that timeline has passed with no improvement.
The transport operators have given government one week to begin meaningful repairs or face a mass protest, which will include parking all commercial vehicles serving the route.
They are also calling on motorists, commuters, residents, and the general public to join the planned protest to pressure authorities into action.
