
The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, has described Dr. Murtala Mohammed as a distinguished historian, during a solemn period when the Volta Region is mourning the loss of eight Ghanaians who perished in a military helicopter crash.
Speaking at a regional event held in remembrance of the victims in Ho, the Ho Central legislator acknowledged Dr. Mohammed’s scholarly contributions to the preservation and interpretation of Ghana’s history.
The MP noted that Dr. Mohammed’s extensive research and academic work have deepened the understanding of the country’s heritage, especially in the context of political and cultural developments.
The tribute came as the Volta Regional Minister, the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, and residents across the region joined in collective grief, paying respects to the lives lost in the tragic crash.
The atmosphere was marked by sorrow, with mourners clad in red and black to symbolize their grief and solidarity with the bereaved families.
The MP emphasized that remembering and documenting events, both tragic and triumphant, is a vital role historians like Dr. Mohammed play in national life.
“History is the thread that binds our people’s experiences. Dr. Mohammed has been instrumental in ensuring that these narratives, including moments of collective loss, are preserved for future generations,” he said.
The helicopter accident, which claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians on a national assignment, has sent shockwaves across the country, with national leaders, security agencies, and civilians expressing condolences and calling for thorough investigations into its cause.
