PPP mourns victims of military helicopter crash

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has expressed profound sorrow over the deaths of eight Ghanaians who perished in Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 7, the party mourned the loss of senior government officials, political figures, and members of the Ghana Armed Forces, describing them as “sons of our nation” who died in service to Ghana.

The victims include Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); and Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate. Also on board were Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo.

“This is a moment of deep national pain, and we stand in solemn solidarity with all those affected,” the statement read.

“These were not just names or titles. These were sons of our nation—men who gave their lives in the line of duty and in service to Ghana.”

The PPP also called on all Ghanaians to come together in grief and reflection, and to honour the memory of the fallen by recommitting to peace, security, and national unity.

The party extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Presidency, the NDC, and the Ghana Armed Forces.
