Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, believes CK Akonnor’s move to Gor Mahia FC as head coach presents a golden opportunity for Ghanaian players.
The former Black Stars coach has signed a two-year contract with the Kenyan side and will be assisted by Bismark Kobby Mensah, with George Owu serving as the goalkeepers’ trainer.
Speaking to LUV FM, Sannie Daara described Akonnor’s appointment as a strategic gateway that could open doors for more Ghanaian footballers to secure transfers to East African clubs.
“They’ve seen that there are lots of opportunities for them to also make money via the Club World Cup. So they are also counting on CK [Akonnor] to find not only talents in Kenya but also talents outside Kenya, particularly in Ghana. They’ll be targeting Ghanaian players for recruitment,” he stated.
“They are hopeful that he can help them turn the corner, and I know that he knows football talent when he sees one. I’m confident he’ll be able to find some within the Kenyan sphere to deliver results,” he added.
CK Akonnor has previously managed Ghana’s two most prestigious clubs, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, as well as other local teams.
