Afigya Kwabre North MP mourns aspiring nurse killed in armed robbery attack

Residents of Denase in the Afigya Kwabre North District of the Ashanti Region have been thrown into a state of mourning following a tragic armed attack on Thursday night that left two people dead and three others injured.

One of the deceased, identified as Peggy Ayelbassah, was a young woman reportedly on her way to Salaga for an interview at a nursing training college when the incident occurred.

The Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah, confirmed the unfortunate incident in a Facebook post.

Mr. Adomako-Mensah revealed that Peggy had reached out to him just a day before the attack through WhatsApp.

The shooting took place late Thursday when unknown gunmen opened fire on a vehicle passing through the area. Eyewitnesses reported hearing several gunshots, which sparked panic among residents.

Three other passengers sustained gunshot wounds and are currently being treated at the Offinso Saint Patrick Hospital.

Kwabena Asamoah, Unit Committee Chairman for the Denase Electoral Area, indicated that the incident may have been a planned assault rather than a random robbery.

“This didn’t seem like a robbery. It appeared more like a targeted attack. The way the shooting was done, it looked like they knew who they were after,” Mr. Asamoah told the media.

According to him, as many as 14 rounds were fired during the attack, further raising concerns about the level of violence.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that a full-scale investigation is underway and that efforts are being made to apprehend those responsible.
