Acting in accordance with the Engineering Council Act, 2011 (Act 819), President John Dramani Mahama has appointed a new Governing Board for the Engineering Council of Ghana.
The nine-member board is chaired by Ing. Dr. Sitsofe David Addo. Other members include Ing. Samuel Magnus Asiedu, Engr. Prof. Mike Agbesi Acheampong, Ing. Michael Dompreh-Ampofo, and Engr. Eric Atta Sono.
The remaining members are Ing. Prof. Kwabena Britwum Nyarko, Ing. Ebenezer Kwesi Haizel, Esq. Anthony Osei, and Ing. Isaac Bedu, who serves as the Registrar.
The Board, which serves as the regulatory body for engineering practice in Ghana, plays a crucial role in promoting public safety and upholding professional standards. It is responsible for registering all engineering practitioners, accrediting engineering educational programmes, and setting ethical guidelines for the profession.
Inaugurating the Board on behalf of the President, the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, congratulated the members and highlighted the importance of their appointment.

“Your selection not only recognises your expertise and leadership but also reflects the government’s confidence in your collective ability to guide the Council through this vital phase of national transformation,” he stated.
Mr. Adjei emphasised that the government expects the Council to champion excellence in infrastructure delivery—ensuring that every project, from rural bridges and national highways to public hospitals and water treatment plants, meets the highest standards, is climate-resilient, and addresses long-term community needs.
“Your role in promoting local content and fostering Ghanaian engineering talent is equally vital. Through these initiatives, we will generate sustainable jobs, spur homegrown innovation, and reduce our reliance on external expertise,” he added.
Explaining the Council’s mandate, the Registrar, Ing. Isaac Bedu, noted that the Engineering Council—established by Act 819 and its regulations—is the statutory body tasked with regulating the practice of engineering in Ghana.
He said the Council’s core mission is to ensure the highest standards of professional conduct and public safety while regulating engineering professionals, firms, and institutions.
