Ex-Manchester City midfielder eyes career revival after joining Bechem United

Mohammed Aminu

Former Manchester City midfielder Mohammed Aminu is determined to revive his career after sealing a return to the Ghana Premier League ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 24-year-old has joined Bechem United as he looks to rediscover his form following a difficult spell abroad.

Aminu moved to English giants Manchester City in 2017 from West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) in a deal reportedly worth £2 million, but struggled to make a breakthrough.

After five years without breaking into City’s first team, Aminu was released in 2022.

Speaking to 3Sports after his move, the midfielder expressed confidence in his comeback: “This coming year is going to be my year for sure because I’ve been preparing for this,” he said.

“It’s normal to doubt, though, because it’s football, you know. Some will like you, some will not like you, some will doubt you, some will not doubt you.

“I’m forever grateful, and I’m happy for them doubting me. They’re making me stronger, making me do more and train more, so big thanks to them,” he added.

Now back in Ghana, Aminu is focused on helping Bechem United achieve success in the domestic top flight and reigniting the promise that once made him one of the country’s brightest young talents.
