Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has urged his players to approach their upcoming quarterfinal clash against Algeria with confidence and composure.
Ghana will take on Algeria on Saturday, July 19, in the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.
The Black Queens endured a mixed group-stage campaign, recording one win, one draw, and one loss.
Algeria, by contrast, progressed with an unbeaten record—two draws and a win—without conceding a goal.
Addressing the media ahead of the crucial tie, the Swiss tactician encouraged his players to embrace the challenge rather than fear it.
“At the end of the day, we need to take this opportunity. We need to not be scared out there. Instead, see it in the opposite way—that we actually have a great chance to go to the next round,” Björkegren said.
“So just be there, do our best, and I’m sure we have a good chance to go to the next round,” he added.
Kick-off for the eagerly awaited encounter is scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
