A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency executives from the Kusaug Traditional Area has expressed disappointment in President John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of neglecting the worsening security crisis in Bawku.
At a press conference held on Tuesday, July 15, the executives from Binduri, Bawku Central, Pusiga, Tempane, Zebilla, and Garu said Mahama’s silence on the renewed violence in the area has left many feeling abandoned.
“During the December 7 election, the Kusaug people voted not just for hope and progress, but for survival—placing their trust in the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama,” a spokesperson said. “But that trust is now dangerously eroded.”
The executives cited the July 13 attack and the alleged burning of the Bawku Naba’s statue as signs of escalating tension. They said Mahama has failed to show leadership at a time when the Kusaug people expected decisive intervention.
“We are at a point where our own people see us as enablers of a system that has betrayed them completely,” they added. “We refuse to continue risking our lives and integrity in the name of a government that appears to have no respect for our people.”
They warned that without urgent and meaningful action from Mahama, the NDC risks losing its grassroots support in the region.
“We cannot defend what has become indefensible. The people of Kusaug have reached their limit,” they concluded.
The statement marks a rare public rebuke from party executives in the region and reflects growing frustration with the NDC’s handling of the long-running Bawku conflict.
