Ablekuma North rerun: Videos of some attacks could be AI-generated – Anthony Nukpenu

The Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anthony Nukpenu, has questioned the authenticity of some viral videos purportedly showing acts of violence during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Nukpenu described some of the incidents as regrettable but raised doubts about the accuracy and origin of certain videos circulating online.

“The attacks must be condemned, but I am happy that there were no gunshots or deaths. It must be on record that the thugs are not from NDC stock. They could be from the NPP because, in politics, when you disappoint people, they can turn against you. But some of these incidents are being exaggerated and could have even been generated through AI,” he stated.

Reacting specifically to the attack on former Awutu Senya East MP, Hawa Koomson, Mr. Nukpenu said he was shocked by the news.

According to him, he met and interacted with Madam Koomson, Akuapem North MP Sammi Awuku, and Political Aide to Dr. Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, at the Methodist Church polling station where the attack reportedly occurred.

Expressing his sympathy, Mr. Nukpenu added that the party intends to visit Madam Koomson to commiserate with her and offer an apology.

He also expressed optimism that the police will investigate the incidents thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Ablekuma North rerun has drawn national attention following months of political wrangling over the results of the 2024 parliamentary election.

The Electoral Commission (EC) ordered a rerun in 19 polling stations after disputes over missing endorsements and irregularities.
