Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has revealed that his team had only one objective heading into the 2025 President’s Cup clash, which was to win.
The Porcupine Warriors came from behind to seal a thrilling 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Despite trailing after Hamza Issah’s first-half strike for the Phobians, Kotoko responded strongly in the second half with goals from Peter Acquah Amidu and Kwame Opoku to secure their ninth President’s Cup title.
Speaking after the game, a jubilant Zito said the team was fully focused on lifting the trophy, especially after missing out on the league title.
“The plan is to come and win. I saw that we should go for the second cup. We wanted the league, but we couldn’t, and this is my second win,” he said.
He praised the team’s second-half performance and was pleased with the impact of some of the new players introduced during the match.
“Our second half was far better than the first half. We’re all happy, and the supporters are also happy. I introduced a few players; we’re showing in South Africa next and will focus on our Africa campaign next.
“I’m happy with the win. Our main focus is to win; we’re prepared to win, and by God’s grace, they won,” he added.
Asante Kotoko will travel to South Africa later this month to face Kaizer Chiefs in the Toyota Cup as they continue preparations for their continental campaign.
