Ghana Police passes out 545 recruits, unveils unit to support 24-hour economy

The Ghana Police Service has graduated 545 new recruits—comprising 298 females and 247 males—at a passing-out ceremony held on Friday, July 4, at the Ashanti Regional Police Training School in Kumasi.

Addressing the ceremony, the Director-General of Services, Dr. Ernest Kwabena Owusu, underscored the pivotal role of the police in supporting the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.

He announced the establishment of a dedicated unit at the Police Headquarters—the 24-Hour Economy Security Secretariat—to provide round-the-clock security in line with the policy.

“The Ghana Police Service has a cardinal role to play in this initiative. We must ensure the safety and protection of all citizens at all times,” Dr. Owusu said.

He urged the new recruits to serve with humility, integrity, and diligence, while cautioning them against acts of intimidation.

Dr. Owusu reminded them that their primary duty is to maintain peace and foster public confidence in the police service.
