Vice Chairman of the Black Stars, Stephen Appiah, has expressed strong confidence in Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars revived their qualification hopes with back-to-back victories — a commanding 5-0 win over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium and a 3-0 triumph against Madagascar in Morocco.
These results have propelled Ghana to the top of Group I with 15 points, with four matches remaining in the qualifiers.
Speaking on Citi FM’s TotalEnergies Auto Show, Appiah — a former Black Stars captain who led Ghana to its maiden World Cup appearance in 2006 and again in 2010 — said he is optimistic about the team’s prospects.
“For what I saw against Chad and Madagascar, and the friendlies — the Unity Cup we played in the UK against Nigeria and Trinidad — it has given me a lot of hope because the new players who came showed themselves well,” he said.
“So yeah, I am very convinced. We still have four games to play, but when you do the calculations, nothing tells me that we are not going to qualify,” Appiah added.
Ghana will return to action in September for their Matchday 7 and 8 encounters against Chad and Mali, before concluding their qualification campaign in October with fixtures against Comoros and the Central African Republic.
