Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed that plans to establish a dedicated Sports Fund are nearing completion, which could provide a much-needed financial lifeline for the country’s struggling sporting disciplines.
In recent years, many sports federations in Ghana have faced significant funding shortfalls, hindering their ability to participate in key international competitions.
Addressing members of the Ghana Olympic Committee during a meeting, the Buem Constituency MP acknowledged these ongoing challenges but expressed confidence that the new fund would greatly enhance support for athletes and sports organizations.
“The Ministry has engaged with many of you on the matter of a sports fund, and we are inching closer to getting that really done,” Kofi said.
He emphasized that the initiative would help move beyond symbolic encouragement to provide tangible financial assistance.
“When it is done, it will reduce situations where we only offer spiritual backing without the necessary financial support.”
“[With the Sports Fund] We back you spiritually, and we back you with what it takes to participate,” he added.
