Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former boss of the now-defunct National Security Bureau (NSB), has claimed that GH¢5.1 million, currently under scrutiny, was used to procure vehicles for then President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
In a letter from EOCO custody, where he is currently on remand, Adu-Boahene detailed what he described as a summary of Special Operations expenditure undertaken during the sensitive post-election transition period.
The former security chief, who has been charged by the Attorney-General with multiple counts of stealing and causing financial loss to the state, firmly rejected the allegations against him.
He insisted that every disbursement made under his leadership at the NSB was authorised and directly related to national security operations. “I am not a thief,” he wrote. “All funds were expended in good faith and in service to the Republic.”
In his letter, Adu-Boahene stated that the vehicles in question were essential for the logistical needs of the incoming President and his team, and that procurement was carried out under urgent and classified directives.
