The John Evans Atta Mills Presidential Library, which was commissioned years ago, still remains under lock and key as the contractor of the project has refused to hand over the facility.
According to the contractor, his work has not been fully paid for, therefore he cannot hand over the keys until that is done.

The library, in memory of late President Mills, has a 100-seater capacity auditorium, a 45-seater multimedia centre, seminar rooms and a museum which contains historical materials reflecting his life and works.
Situated opposite the Cape Coast Castle, the facility is expected to be managed by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Libraries, and its research events would be coordinated by the university’s Faculty of Arts, with support from the Directorate of Research Innovation and Consultancy of the UCC.
But, the entire facility is rotting away and needs about 4.5 million dollars for refurbishment.

Adom FM’s morning show host, Captain Smart, who visited the facility over the weekend, said the facility had remained closed years after its commissioning.
He said dust had virtually taken over furniture and the statue of the late President at the reception area of the two-storey edifice.

“The library is now a ‘white elephant’ due to the inaction of government, it is sad,” he bemoaned during Fabewoso segment on the morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Monday.
