A large quantity of shea butter oil has spilled onto the Accra–Kumasi Highway following a tanker incident near the Misa Fuel Station at Ntoaso in the Eastern Region.

The incident involved a DAF XF tanker transporting shea butter oil from Tema to Techiman when it developed a technical fault.

According to reports, the tanker’s discharge valve broke while in transit, leading to the spillage of an estimated 50 cartons of oil onto the roadway.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Suhum Municipal Fire Station, quickly responded to the scene after the incident was reported.

Firefighters confirmed that no casualties were recorded as a result of the spillage.

The crew immediately applied foam concentrate to contain the spread of the oil and prevent further environmental and road safety hazards.

The swift intervention helped secure the area and restore normal traffic flow along the busy highway, which serves as a key transport corridor linking Accra to other parts of the country.

Authorities say the situation was brought under control without any injuries, while efforts were made to ensure the road remained safe for motorists.

Motorists were urged to exercise caution when using the stretch during the emergency response operations.
